Long DMV lines getting longer
Bad as it is in county, it's worse elsewhere

" . . . The waits at the California Department of Motor Vehicles' field offices are long -- and getting longer every day.
Successive budget cuts have shaved staff from DMV offices as workloads rose, according to a state Legislative Analyst's Office report issued last week. The average 60-minute wait for walk-in customers is expected to hit 80 minutes in late 2004, up 35 minutes from three years ago. And that doesn't include the average 30-minute wait just to get the "queuing number" that holds a person's place in line for the marathon wait . . .
" . . . At today's Thousand Oaks DMV, the line of dozens forms before 8 a.m. It's bad all over the county, but worst in Simi Valley, where a Moorpark man said he recently waited two and a half hours. For people without an appointment, the average wait in Oxnard is 44 minutes; Ventura, 45; Thousand Oaks, 63; and Simi Valley, 75; according to DMV statistics.
Up to four hours' wait
But that's nothing. Offices in San Mateo, Glendale and Fullerton are reporting waits of up to four hours. The DMV's phone system allows people to schedule their appointments, but the phone lines get busy and people can't get through . . . "
